Scots metal theft date

The Scottish Business Resilience Centre are hosting a second annual Metal Theft Summit, on Wednesday, February 25 in Glasgow. Presentations as well as information on metal theft trends and advice on how to combat metal theft, and what the authorities term ‘the ripple effect’ of the crime – which range from thefts of batteries from mobile traffic lights and catalytic converters from vehicles to manhole covers.

Organisers of the event at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Training Centre, Cambuslang G72 7NA sat it’s to raise awareness of the of the metal theft issue in Scotland, show how it affects everyone and how partnership working can make a real impact in assisting Scotland’s economic recovery and in creating a hostile environment for metal thieves.

After a quarterly meeting last year of the Metal Theft Scotland Working Group, British Transport Police Area Commander John McBride said:
“Metal theft continues to affect communities across Scotland including attacks on the transport infrastructure which affect commuters to attacks on energy supply and telecommunications networks affecting power and telephony, internet and broadband services to homes and businesses up and down the country.

“Officers continue to carry out operations to apprehend those responsible and work closely with affected communities and industries including recyclers to raise awareness and share good practice. There is no doubt all of the effort has had a positive impact and British Transport Police has seen a huge decrease in reported offences.” BTP chairs the meeting of utilities and law enforcers.
