The University of Leicester, The Security Institute and Perpetuity Training Ltd report that the institute’s Diploma in Security Management is recognised by the university and is mapped with Leicester’s Foundation Degree in Security and Risk Management. Anyone holding the Institute’s Diploma in Security Management can apply to the University of Leicester to take the Foundation Degree and, on gaining a place, will be exempt from three of the 12 course modules. Students with the SyI Diploma applying for the Foundation Degree will also be eligible for a course fees discount of up to a quarter.
The Foundation Degree is run by Leicester University’s Department of Criminology. Speaking for the department, Dr Matt Hopkins described the initiative as ‘a ground-breaking combination of academic content and qualification which recognises the professional status and vocational qualifications of the Security Institute’.
Welcoming the initiative Mike Bluestone, pictured, chairman of the Security Institute said: “This is an important step forward in developing the professional and academic standing of security professionals, and offers a tremendous opportunity for Institute members and others who hold the Diploma.” The foundation degree has two intakes per year (March and September) and is currently accepting applicants. Anyone with a SyI Diploma who would like to apply should contact Dr Hilary Jones on [email protected] or tel: 0116 2525765.
