Crowd safety into Australia

by Mark Rowe

eResponse Group, a UK-based training and recruitment company, has exported its crowd safety training to Australia. The business, which has six branches and training centres in the UK, founded in 2003, has opened eResponse Crowd Safety Australia which is based in Epping, north Sydney. Pictured left to right beside Sydney Harbour Bridge are Tara and Jim Fidler. They head the new Australian division and will work with eResponse’s Crowd Safety Director, UK-based Andy Hollinson.

Andy Hollinson said: “We have seen a superb response to the crowd safety training that we’ve offered across the world since last year. Establishing and investing into a permanent base in Australia is a natural step forward for us, especially after building such strong links there through our partnership with Jim and Tara. Both are widely respected in the industry and will help drive our growth in a new market. It’s an exciting time to launch eResponse Crowd Safety Australia and we are delighted to be leading the way.”

Hollinson added that eResponse Crowd Safety Australia will offer crowd safety qualifications such as Front of Stage Pit Operations, Event Security Operations (ESO) and also Stewarding for Event Staff. eResponse will also offer its new Level 5 Diploma in Crowd Science and Risk Analysis.

That Level 5 Diploma is a three-day course for people who design, plan and manage the movement of people in sport, entertainment, shopping and transport environments. Their crowd safety division works with a variety of event organisers, police forces and sports stadium operators to deliver training to staff in crowd management, security and event planning.

Jim Fidler has over 25 years’ experience in security and crowd management. Originally from England, he was a Metropolitan Police officer. He has planned and deliver security for some of Australia’s highest profile events and mass gatherings. For the London 2012 Olympics Jim had the role of venue security manager for Games organisers LOCOG and in 2014 was spectator safety manager for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Tara Fidler has been involved in crowd management since 2000, advising on events across New South Wales and Australia.
