Apprentices in Denmark

by Mark Rowe

Skills for Security has sent security systems apprentices to Denmark, with Leonardo Mobility Programme funding from the European Union.

The first of three groups of apprentices from 17 electronic security systems companies around the UK have returned from EU-funded work experience to Denmark, the first funded through the Leonardo Mobility Programme for Skills for Security. This was run with the Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology, Bravida, a systems installation company in Scandinavia, and the Leonardo da Vinci National Agency.

The 14 days in Copenhagen gave participants the chance to experience operational practices overseas and participate in activities to enhance and develop their skills in the installation of security systems. They stayed in Danhostel Amager youth hostel, with an accompanying adult, and worked alongside Bravida’s engineers in the Copenhagen area. The second mobility to Denmark is from April 20 to May 4.

Tina Sander, DBI – Project Partner said: “Everyone here was happy about Group 1, please give them our greetings. Glad to hear that they had some great experiences. Bravida has also learnt a lot from Group 1 and they are very much looking forward to Group 2 now. It meant a lot that Group 1 left a good impression, and they surely did. It is great when you have apprentices that are eager to learn and positive”

Ben Ashley – Solutions SK – Group 1 Apprentice said: “..thank you for the opportunity to visit Denmark. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and found the placement with Bravida very interesting. I found working with the engineers helpful and I have brought a number of useful ideas home with me that I will be discussing with my manager. I have many photos from the trip, including social and during the working day”

Josh Reynolds – Mitie Fire & Security Services Ltd – Group 1 Apprentice said: “… had a fantastic time and met a really nice bunch of people. Bravida really looked after me and made me feel very welcome…”

Nathan Ricketts – Skills for Security – Group 1 Accompanying Adult said: “Being the first group to go to Copenhagen there was a lot of excitement and anticipation. Bravida were not only very welcoming and happy to share their expertise and experiences, but also keen to gain knowledge from the apprentices themselves. Overall the trip was a huge success where the apprentices gained valuable work and life skills, a credit to all concerned, they did themselves proud and should be happy with all they achieved in Denmark. A special thanks go to Skills for Security and DBI who organised the trip so well and helped make it a fantastic success”

A second pre departure briefing was held by Skills for Security in Worcester for the third participant group leaving in June, where the aims of the Leonardo Mobility programme were explained to the participants. A buffet lunch was kindly sponsored by Tavcom, Southampton.

The June participants are: Amair Zamir (not in photo), Thompson AVC; Christopher Walker, Lincoln Security; Joseph Grewcock, Lincoln Security; Greg Allan, Bartec Fire & Security; Josh Thompson-Dixon (not in photo), Thompson AVC; Nathan Sefton, Chubb Fire & Security (Tipton Branch); Ryan Jenkins, Chubb Fire & Security (Cardiff Branch); Saqib Iqbail, Boss Security
