SANS Institute has announced a dedicated ICS security training event covering intermediary and advanced skills for practitioners, with a track for managers tasked with strategic planning, policy and leadership.

SANS ICS Amsterdam 2016, from April 18 to 22, 2016 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the heart of Amsterdam, will include the ICS515: ICS Active Defence and Incident Response course.

The course is led by Rob M Lee, a former Cyber Warfare Operations Officer in the US Air Force who was also recently named to the 2016 class of Forbes “30 Under 30” for Enterprise Technology as one of “the brightest entrepreneurs, breakout talents, and change agents” in the sector.

ICS515 uses real-world malware to break down cyber-attacks on ICS. Students cover concepts such as using threat intelligence, performing network security monitoring, and using malware analysis and incident response to ensure the safety and reliability of operations.

SANS will also be running the introductory course, ICS410: ICS/SCADA Security Essentials led by SANS Instructor Justin Searle, a Managing Partner of UtiliSec. Searle also played key roles in the Advanced Security Acceleration Project for the Smart Grid (ASAP-SG) and leads the testing group at the National Electric Sector Cybersecurity Organization Resources (NESCOR).

For managers and those in leadership roles, SANS will also be running the course, MGT514: IT Security Strategic Planning, Policy and Leadership. The course is led by Frank Kim who prior to joining the SANS Institute, was Executive Director of Cyber Security at Kaiser Permanente with accountability for delivering security to meet the needs of the largest not-for-profit health plan in the US. In recognition of his work, Frank was a two-time recipient of the CIO Achievement Award for business enabling thought leadership.

Students learn in a classroom under the guidance of SANS Instructors and fees include evening networking opportunities and supplementary cyber security talks and sessions. SANS is offering early registration discount for participants that sign up before March 2; visit https://www.sans.org/event/ics-amsterdam-2016/.
