People counters

SG Systems Limited (Shopguard) – a provider of anti-theft products announced that a UK centre for contemporary art and design, Spike Island, has SG Systems’ Infra-Red People Counting System, that counts the number of people visiting the facility. The people counters are designed to gather customer flow data and so allow users to make informed decisions about their businesses that can save resources, time and money.

The system independently counts incoming and outgoing traffic, and is available as floor mount people counter column, wall mount people counter capsule or portable, battery driven people counter depending on requirements. The system in a wireless intelligent version works for multi-location retail stores, through the optional data collection, remote accessibility and data analysis software.

Operations Coordinator for Spike Island, Gemma Wright, said: “The people counter that SG Systems has installed at Spike Island has enabled us to properly monitor the number of visitors we have to the building in an accurate way. The beauty of the software that comes with the counter means that you can look at visitor flow retrospectively and gather information between specific time periods for things such as talks, events or exhibition openings. This information is paramount when feeding back to our funders and in evaluating the success of events. We recently had our annual Spike Open event and having the people counter meant we had an accurate record of everyone that came along. It has enabled to see which days were busier than others and measure this against what talks and activities we had on during that period. This information will assist us in planning next year’s event and staffing provision.”
