PFI CCTV

by msecadm4921

The new extension at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) hospital has CCTV.

2020 Vision, based in North Shields, has just begun its major contract with developers Crown House Technology to install CCTV in the new PFI extension at the RVI. 2020 is tasked with setting up 130 cameras as the development takes shape, in a contract worth about £408,000.
As well as the new surveillance contract within the extension, 2020 has secured a second contract direct with Newcastle NHS Trust, one of the largest hospital groups in the UK, to replace the existing CCTV system which operates within the RVI, with the second contract worth about £415,000. The contract for the revamp of the existing surveillance equipment is on top of a £240,000 contract with Newcastle NHS Trust for a new Trust wide Smart Card access control system.
Robin Smith, estates consultant for the Newcastle NHS Trust said: "2020 Vision are acknowledged experts within security systems, they have an excellent track record and reputation and have provided us with ground breaking solutions in the past. The key aim of this project is to ensure that the RVI Hospital provides a safe, secure and pleasant environment for patients, staff and visitors. The new integrated solution will see our security and safety procedures raised to the highest level, which can only be of benefit to the hospitals and people working and passing through them. The video surveillance system records 24 hours a day and will act both as a management tool and a deterrent. It will capture any incidents that take place and provide sufficient information to ensure the appropriate action will be taken, and if necessary provide high-quality evidence."

All systems will be integrated with, and controlled by, the central control room housed within The Freeman Hospital, as completed by 2020 last year. The control room is responsible for all cameras and surveillance equipment operating within the NHS Trust including the Freeman Hospital and when completed the RVI. The Trust has been working with 2020 Vision for seven years planning this major project, which is due for completion in 2012.

Peter Houlis, managing director of 2020 Vision said "We are delighted to have begun work on such a prestigious contract. This is something we have been working with the trust on for a number of years. It is very rewarding to see it come to fruition."
