The UK Government’s National Security Strategy and Strategic Defence and Security Review 2015 stated that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) would launch an innovation initiative, with other departments. What the Government terms a new defence and security accelerator is to be set up.
The defence and security accelerator will the Home Office says accelerate ideas from conception through to application, against challenges that seek to maintain military advantage and protect the UK. The aim is for Government defence and security departments to work with the private sector, academia and others to develop innovative solutions to the most pressing national security challenges.
The Government is seeking views on how to develop the accelerator, such as: how to connect research institutions and industry; demonstrate and develop new ideas; and match customers with potential developers of products.
