Scheme cuts metal theft

by Mark Rowe

After a council scheme using an outdoor marking product, Dudley has seen a total cut in metal theft from its parks. Dudley Council confirmed that metal theft from parks had been a problem in the borough and that 30 rails of security fence had been stolen from a park in one incident before use of SelectaDNA Trace. That product is designed for the protection and identification of metals and outdoor equipment. It is described by its makers as an asset-infrastructure marking solution which consists of a group of ceramic particles and thousands of microdots.

These tiny, metallic dots are read by a microscope to show a SelectaDNA code which is linked to the Police approved Secure Asset Register database.
