Humber transmission

North Lincolnshire Council required monitored CCTV at the village of Barton. The system would need to be monitored, controlled and recorded 24-hours by the council’s 24-7 control room in Scunthorpe.

The installer Videcom sought to use existing street furniture while giving best overall coverage of the area using a mixture of fixed and PTZ cameras. All cameras were to be full high definition IP and to be positioned in such a way that they used the minimum amount of cameras with as little visual impact on the area as possible. Videcom are a SilverNet systems partner. Over recent years the two firms have worked together on numerous other projects using a wide range of SilverNet equipment. This Barton project included a mixture of SilverNet links:

SILMAX 500 – BACKHAUL

SILLITE240 – BACKHAUL

SILLITE95 – BACKHAUL

Videcom were also the first installers of the new PICO95 point to point links. SilverNet’s new PICO95 is described as a solution for the “last mile” with its built in antenna and range up to 1km. The PICO95 was designed and made by Silvernet to offer installers flexibility within their systems to install wireless transmission over shorter distances. Its lower energy foot print, improved resilience and reduction in spectrum congestion all ensure efficiencies in both the installation and running costs the makers say.

Danny Harsley Northern Engineering Manager for Videcom said: “The PICO links allowed us much more versatility around their mounting position due to their lightweight and minimum size which in turn gave us greater flexibility as to where the cameras could be positioned.”

That mix of fixed and PTZ IP cameras decreases the overall workload, the firms add. The SilverNet equipment worked with the Redvision HD IP PTZ and the LG Fixed HD IP cameras.

Once all camera signals from the point to point systems were collected at the central hub they were transmitted over a SilverNet SIL LITE 240 backhaul to the Humber Bridge. They then linked into an SIL MAX500 backhaul link (previously installed by Videcom for another wireless system in that area). This then transmitted almost 20km to Scunthorpe for monitoring onto Videcom’s own VNR recording system. This ONVIF recorder takes digital and analogue cameras from the same system.

Silvernet wireless transmission products are also in use in the Derbyshire Police ANPR system at Matlock; Diss town centre in Norfolk; and Watford town centre’s public space CCTV.
