Active Shooter may well be a book that you wish you don’t have to read.

While we hear of US campus shootings, any workplace can be a target, as this book by two American trainers sets out. The authors go through the reasons someone may become an active shooter; what personality traits and behaviour to look out for; what to do in the emergency; how to use social media, for one thing. While naturally the life and death response matters, the authors stress also the need for planning beforehand; how to risk-assess, train and plan, taking in HR, counselling and communications. They recommend and offer checklists for processes – so you don’t miss something, above all during the shock and disbelief when put under pressure. Don’t trust to your experience, they advise: “Checklists help especially when under pressure.”
