Videophone series

by Mark Rowe

Videx has introduced a new 6200 series of videophones, suitable it’s claimed forcommercial and residential UK properties.

The products feature a 3.5-inch colour high resolution TFT monitor and duplex speech. Buttons are available for door-gate release, camera recall, privacy and other services. Extra controls for picture brightness, contrast and hue are included, as is a three position call tone volume switch.

Neil Thomas, National Sales Manager at Videx said: “Over recent years, the trend has been to move away from audio only to video because of the additional security provided as users are able to identify visitors before giving them access to the building. Initially, because of the increased cost of videophones as compared to audio only, the majority of door entry systems were supplied with black and white monitors rather than colour. However, Videx has been able to reduce the costs for colour video monitors and respond to customer feedback to provide cost effective high quality colour screens.”

Four models are available, beginning with the 6256 for the video kit range. Up to four monitors can be used in each apartment and offer inter-communication calls between monitors and timed privacy. Door panels can have one or two call buttons, and up to four call panels can be connected. All standard video kits will now be available with the 6200 Series. A choice of door panel style is available, whether for residential use, or in offices, schools and hospitals.

For larger systems there is the 6272 for the VX2200 system, the 6286 for the VX2300 system and the 6231 for the 4+1 systems. The 6272 can be used on systems with up to 998 apartments and requires only six wires while the 6286 requires only two wires for up to 100 apartments and are suited to high rise installations and student accommodation. The 6231 is a five-wire videophone for smaller systems on up to 20 apartments.

The 6200 series is also available with caller memory. This takes a still image of the caller with a time and date stamp allowing a user to review visitors on return. It is also possible to manually take pictures at any time during a call. On screen display helps navigate the still images and make adjustments to the settings, time and date. Neil Thomas added: “This feature adds additional security and peace of mind allowing you to see your visitors even when you are away.”

All connections are made within the videophone onto removable plug type connectors enabling engineers to remove the videophone should the need arise – for example during refurbishments. The connectors can also be used during a first fix allowing the videophone to be mounted at a later stage during the second fix, so that the videophone isn’t damaged during the initial development installation.
