Stop burglaries before they happen

by Mark Rowe

Did you know that 95 per cent of UK burglaries are never solved? That’s why it’s more important than ever to stop burglaries before they happen. You may be wondering how you, as a business owner, can prevent burglaries altogether. Rotec Security Solutions believe the best offence is a good defence and we’re here to tell you why you should consider upgrading your security solutions this year.

Surveillance isn’t enough

Business often rely on surveillance equipment to deter burglars but, these days, deterrents are simply not enough. Equipment like CCTV cameras only work to help catch burglars after the burglary has taken place which often results in a lengthy investigative process that is likely to go unsolved. These days, many business owners are turning their focus to improving overall building security, making it much harder – often impossible – for petty burglars to gain entry in the first place.

More at risk than you think

You may be surprised to find there’s more at risk than the cash, products, or equipment stored in a building when a burglary occurs. These days, even the smallest businesses often store important information, data, and documents on-site. In the wrong hands, this information can lead to cases of fraud or identity theft. In addition, breaches in customer/client data can see business owners on the receiving end of legal action even if the breach was the result of a burglary.

Long-term protection

As your business expands and becomes more established within the local area the risk of burglary increases. It’s not just retail businesses that are at risk either. Burglars are increasingly targeting all manner of businesses. For example, pharmacies – or businesses selling pharmaceuticals – experience ten times more burglaries a year than the business average. Improving your building’s security requires an investment of both time and money but it’s something we recommend all business owners consider in 2019. The appropriate security systems are a long-term crime prevention solution that will protect your business for years to come.

The simplest way to protect your business is to reinforce all access points. There are a number of different security solutions available depending upon your individual security needs. For example, businesses with internal car parks/garages and loading bays will have very different security requirements to businesses that only have commercial entry points.

Businesses with large “store-front” windows may find these areas to be the most vulnerable whereas businesses connected with adjoining buildings may find themselves at a greater risk of break-ins through neighbouring properties. We always recommend getting a consultation wherein which a security specialist will evaluate the weakest points in your building and recommend the appropriate security systems to fit your budget.
