Regional award for access firm

by Mark Rowe

ATG Access has become the Manufacturing Company of the Year at the Insider Magazine’s annual “Made in the North West Awards.”

The company, which makes security bollards and vehicle barrier systems, took the main award on a night at the Park Royal Hotel in Warrington, the evening featured addresses from EEF regional director Darrell Matthews and John Rogers, managing director of International Safety Products. Chris Maguire, editor of North West Business Insider, said: “Our economy has coughed and spluttered back into life and the medicine is manufacturing. The North West is leading the way when it comes to making things and the list of shortlisted and winning companies demonstrates we’re getting better at it and we’re exporting our products across the world.”

Other finalists included GJD Manufacturing, Jaguar Landrover Group, Meltech Group, Plastic Card Services and Precision Polymer Engineering. ATG Access won due to “putting the North West region back on the map.”

ATG Access reports it won the largest security bollard tender to date, supplying the New Doha International Airport. The product company sent several teams of engineers to commission the site once installed and train the onsite security staff prior to hand over. Other projects have varied hugely in scope from a local project to control traffic flow in and out of the new St Peter’s Square development in Manchester to 80 high security road blockers supplied to an undisclosed project in Saudi Arabia. Projects continue in Qatar also with the first phase of the Heart of Doha project won with others having been quoted. New markets include Brazil where ATG announced a new manufacturing facility, Russia where the firm held a hostile vehicle mitigation seminar to contacts and Nigeria where the firm received its first order for surface mounted blockers to protect a financial facility.

ATG Access will now go through to the Insider Made in the UK Awards, to be held at the International Festival for Business in Liverpool in July 2014.
