Paper on sustainability

by Mark Rowe

ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY, the physical security product company, has launched a whitepaper on sustainability in doorset manufacturing.

The paper, entitled ‘How can manufacturers begin to mitigate and quantify their environmental impact from a steel doorset manufacturer’s perspective?’ will be available to download from http://Marketing.assa-abloy.co.uk/securitydoors-whitepaper.

The firm says that the introduction of the Government Construction Strategy (GCS) 2016-20 has set a benchmark for construction clients to adopt a whole-life approach to cost and carbon reduction across the industry, in addition to Construction 2025, which sets out long term goals to reduce environmental impact.

The paper considers manufacturers’ use of materials, energy sources and the manufacturing process itself, as well as examining the whole-life cost of products.

Brian Sofley, pictured, Managing Director at ASSA ABLOY Security Doors and author of the paper, said: “The significant impact the construction industry has upon resources and the environment means it can no longer afford to operate with a ‘business as usual’ mentality.

“This, with government strategy, means that manufacturers must implement business strategies and manufacturing processes that reduce environmental impact. This whitepaper provides information and guidance about these challenges, and I hope it will provide a useful starting point for manufacturers involved in the construction industry.”
