Physical Security

Padlock standard

by Mark Rowe

An Abloy UK padlock has gained certification to Loss Prevention Council Board (LPCB) LPS 1654 Issue 1.0.

The LPCB is part of the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and works with industry and government bodies to set the standards for fire and security products and services. LPCB offers third-party approval confirming that products and services have met and will continue to meet these standards.

LPS 1654 Issue 1.0 is the latest LPCB standard for physical security and is seen as the ultimate test for padlocks incorporating the most stringent physical attack tests, intentionally designed to meet the security needs of the UK Infrastructure. Padlocks that achieve LPCB approval to LPS 1654 have performed in tests by BRE attack testers.

Jon Burke, Marketing Manager for Abloy UK, said: “Abloy is excited and proud to claim a UK first for padlocks in having achieved LPS 1654 Issue 1 SR Level 4 for its new Series 6 range consisting of the newly designed ultra-high security Abloy PL662 utilising the Abloy 203 Locking Plate.

“In addition 10 other Abloy Padlocks were evaluated to LPS 1654 Issue 01 and were awarded classifications ranging from SR 2 to SR3. This range includes not only mechanical padlocks but also the electromechanical Abloy CLIQ range of padlocks. During testing all the Abloy patent protected key mechanisms were also evaluated to BS3621:2007 Annex A 6 and to the manipulation resistance class 1 as defined in LPS 1242 : Issue 2 and have been awarded a LPCB Plus rating.”
