LPCB standard padlocks

by Mark Rowe

Henry Squire & Sons Ltd is the first manufacturer to be accredited to a new quality standard set by LPCB (Loss Protection Certification Board, part of BRE Global) for its Stronghold padlocks. Squire’s Stronghold SS50 and SS65 padlocks which the makers say are suited for utility companies have been approved under LPCB’s new standard LPS 1654: Issue 1.0. Unlike previous LPCB standards, it applies exclusively to the testing, assessment, certification and approval of padlocks. Pictured are Squire’s Stronghold SS50 and SS65 ranges.

Security products approved by LPCB have been tested in programmes designed to evaluate resistance to deliberate attack. Stronghold padlocks achieving LPCB’s security rating classification SR2 include SS50S, SS50AMS, SS50 M3ARX, SS50CS, SS50CAMS and SS50C M3ARX. Those approved to SR3 include SS65S LEV3, SS65AMS LEV3, SS65M3ARX LEV3, SS65CS LEV3, SS65CAMS LEV3 and SS65CM3ARX LEV3.

This means the makers say that specifiers, facilities managers and suppliers can be confident that the LPCB certified Stronghold padlocks offer deterrence against physical intervention, burglary, vandalism and terrorism.

Made from solid steel for maximum strength and durability, the CEN grade Stronghold padlocks are for use on perimeter gates, warehouses, heavy goods vehicles, trailers, garages and high security doors. Managing director John Squire said: “He said: “We are proud to be the first independent lock manufacturer to achieve this important quality assurance standard.

“This accreditation is yet another example of Squire’s ongoing commitment to best practice and ensuring our purpose designed products offer exceptional resistance against a sustained attack.”

At LPCB, Richard Flint said: “We are delighted to certify Squire in recognition of their padlocks’ fantastic performance to LPS1654. Their approval through LPCB provides significant reassurance of their padlock reliability, and confirms Squire’s range of approved padlocks delivers approved levels of performance that are currently second to none. Squire’s padlocks have achieved very commendable ratings, reflecting their ability to resist deliberate attempts at forced removal with a wide range of tools by experienced criminals. We are delighted to include these padlocks in the Red Book list of approved products and services alongside the other great physical security equipment approved by LPCB.”
