Gate training

by Mark Rowe

As we near the three-year anniversary since the deaths of Semelia Campbell and Karolina Golabek in automated gate accidents (on 28.6.10 and 3.7.10 respectively), Gate Safe announces that more than 150 installers have now passed the Gate Safe Aware training.

The next Gate Safe Aware training session runs on July 16, at Newmarket, postcode CB8 8DY. For details visit the website www.gate-safe.org or call 01233 750 620.

The IOSH accredited (Institution Occupational Safety and Health) Gate Safe Aware training was rolled out in August 2012. Since then, Gate Safe has hosted training sessions across the country which provides installers with guidance on the correct protocol to ensure a safe and compliant installation. Delegates who pass the half-day course are eligible to use the Gate Safe Aware installer logo and are added to the register of Gate Safe Aware installers which is accessible via the Gate Safe website.

Gate Safe founder Richard Jackson says: “it is encouraging to note that we now have a good regional spread of Gate Safe Aware installers, which means that consumers – and commercial clients – now have the opportunity to seek out an installer with a proven understanding of the standards and guidelines pertaining to automatic gates. Gate Safe continues to grow in stature and is now formally supported by RoSPA, Electrical Contractors’ Association, SAFed (Safety Assessment Federation) and School Safety MARK. With these key influential bodies recognising the importance of the Gate Safe training, we are confident that in the future, end users will begin to actively request a Gate Safe Aware installation.”
