Gate Safe patron

by Mark Rowe

Gate Safe, the charity for improving the standards of safety for automated gates, has a new patron; TV presenter and meteorologist Kaddy Lee-Preston.

Kaddy, who was the face of BBC South East Today Weather and who is now a freelance TV presenter and regular speaker at charity events and corporate functions, agreed to lend her support to the Gate Safe campaign after meeting with Richard Jackson, its founder.

Richard says: “We are thrilled to have Kaddy’s backing for the work we do. We hope to be able to harness Kaddy’s ability to engage with an audience and educate them on a range of matters to drive forward the Gate Safe campaign by reaching our wider consumer – as opposed to predominately professional – targets. I’m sure that Kaddy’s enthusiasm for presenting and communicating with a broad cross section of the general public, together with her innate charisma will prove invaluable in terms of helping us to educate the tremendous number of individuals involved with automatic gates. This will extend from the various trades persons associated with the industry to the property owner that elects to have an automatic gate installed.”

Kaddy says: “I had no idea of the stringent safety issues associated with an electric gate – and have only ever seen them as an excellent means of controlling access to a property. However, if not correctly installed and maintained they can represent a serious safety risk to anyone using the gates, especially children. Since learning more about automated gates I’m amazed that these ‘machines’ can so easily be installed by someone who potentially lacks the appropriate knowledge or understanding – the dangers of which don’t bear thinking about! I am delighted to be the patron of a charity which is already so widely acknowledged by a number of reputable organisations including RoSPA, School SafetyMARK, The Electrical Safety Council and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.”
