Floor spring door closers

by Mark Rowe

ASSA ABLOY UK, part of the physical security product multi-national company ASSA ABLOY, has launched a range of floor spring door closers.

The new ASSA ABLOY Cam-Motion floor springs are suitable the firm says for fire and non-fire rated timber, metal and glass doors and are configurable for single or double action applications.

Mounted in the floor, below a range of covers in multiple finishes, the floor springs leave doors uncluttered, for a more aesthetically pleasing and simplified look than conventional door mounted doors closers, it is claimed. The manufacturers say the products meet the requirements of BS8300 (low opening forces) to aid designers or building owners in meeting the requirements of the Equalities Act 2010 and Approved Doc M of the Building Regulations.

The range includes three differently priced models: the DC450 that provides EN4 fixed power size and is suitable for a 40mm slab, the DC477 that offers EN2-4 variable power and the DC475, which offers EN3-6 variable power.

Differing installation depths can be configured from the same unit. Back-check and CE Marking to EN1154 is also standard across the range. All models share accessories, taking in varying spindle heights, top and bottom pivot sets and cover plate finishes. All parts can be selected singly for tailored requirements or bought as a kit.

The floor spring door closer range is suitable the makers say for use in schools, hospitals or residential homes where the young, elderly or disabled may struggle with the forces associated with conventional door controls.

David Hindle, Head of Door Closer Sales at ASSA ABLOY UK, said: “Our new range of floor springs complete ASSA ABLOY’s full range of suited door closers. No matter what the requirements of a project are, we can be confident that we have an innovative door closer solution. The technology and high quality components used by ASSA ABLOY mean that high frequency or potentially more ‘abusive’ applications can be successfully overcome and life time costs can be kept to a minimum.” Visit http://www.assaabloy.co.uk/Door-closers.
