Emergency lighting launch

by Mark Rowe

Cooper Lighting and Safety, a business unit of power management company Eaton, is offering its new Zetalite 3 LED (Light-Emitting Diode) emergency luminaire. Recently launched, the company has already sold 16,000 LEDs and expects to sell 200,000 per year. The makers say that this highlights the high demand from electrical contractors and the trend for LEDs for emergency lighting at a more affordable cost.

Development of the luminaire is the result of market analysis where Eaton’s Cooper Lighting and Safety experts identified a strong requirement for energy efficient, yet competitively-priced, LED emergency lighting.

James Beresford, product marketing manager, Emergency Lighting, Eaton’s Cooper Lighting and Safety business, asys: “Traditionally 8W fluorescent tubes have been chosen for emergency lighting because of their low cost compared to LEDs. However, there is high demand for LED solutions as they provide many advantages compared to fluorescent tubes: they provide a long-life and require less maintenance, while at the same time being more efficient and enabling users to reduce energy costs.

“Now, thanks to the introduction of our Zetalite 3 LED, electrical contractors and wholesalers can benefit from more affordable LED emergency lighting with all the advantages of energy efficiency.”

Zetalite 3 LED is claimed to be maintenance free, and is supplied with a self-contained battery unit. The product is said to be suitable for a range of applications, including escape route lighting, open area, anti-panic emergency lighting, and external over door lighting.

Compliant with all the latest legislation for emergency luminaires, the Zetalite 3 LED is said to be suitable for indoors and outdoor s and it is sealed to IP65 for dust, damp or wet. It also offers users a life of nearly 50,000 hours (L80), and a three year warranty.

The Zetalite 3 LED can be mounted on surface ceilings or walls as it features a flame retardant luminaire body and lens. It runs off a nickel cadmium battery and is comprised of 12 0.25-Watt white LEDs. For details, visit www.cooper-ls.com, e-mail [email protected] or call +44 (0)1302 303200.
