Dessian Products Limited, manufacturer of PVCu products, has renewed its membership with Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative. Operating from a 70,000 square foot state of the art factory in Belfast, Dessian has been providing PVCu windows and doors for 30 years. Its customers include retail window companies, trade installers, house builders, municipal education and health authorities, fire authorities, prisons and housing associations across Ireland and Britain. A police-owned organisation, it works on behalf of UK police Service to deliver a range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives. SBD plays a significant crime prevention role in the planning process to design out crime in a wide range of building sectors. One million homes have been built to SBD standards. SBD have partner organisations, from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the police to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work with standards and certification bodies to ensure that their publicly available standards actually meet needs of police and public.
Products must be subjected to testing and auditing by an accredited third party organisation before being allowed to carry the SBD logo – this is the only way for companies to obtain police accreditation for security related products in the UK.
