Clean up Facebook

by msecadm4921

As Facebook introduces its Timeline feature across all user accounts, the information security awareness consultancy The Security Company has published advice on how to clean up your profile and check your privacy settings on its website.

The ‘Timeline’ feature brings historical data closer to the surface, and old posts that users may have thought long forgotten may come back to haunt them.

“Users have been advised to make the most of the remaining opportunity to tidy up their profiles and act now,” says Hannah Tufts of The Security Company. “This change has had an impact on the privacy settings many users vigilantly maintain; any post you make defaults to Public unless a pre-determined audience is selected. As our online presence becomes integral not only to how we do business but how we live our lives, it’s vital that the information posted online does not put individuals at risk.”
