Anti-dipper letter slot

by Mark Rowe

Mailbox product company DAD UK has a new device to combat dippers into mailboxes looking to help themselves to mail or to commit ID fraud. The Shark’s letter slot features a set of teeth with a patented design which prevents thieves from pushing their hands through the slot without any chance of injuring them, the makers say.

Mail theft may happen in flats with mailboxes in open communal areas; sometimes achieved by literally breaking into the mail box. Or, the thief simply ‘fishes’ post out through the mail slot. Hence, the Shark mailbox from DAD UK seeks to resist crooks prising open the mailbox door with a distinctive retainer which holds the door in place from the lock at the top right to the bottom – often a weak point in boxes. A EN1303 lock comes with 30,000 key variations.

Made in Germany, the DAD Shark is based on the DAD 2040 front delivery, front retrieval box. The Shark conforms to Secured by Design (SBD) accreditation standards. To become a member of the Secured by Design, a company must prove that its products meet the standards set by the scheme.
