Video quality in 4K

by Mark Rowe

The network video product company Axis Communications has launched the latest in its AXIS Q61 series of pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) dome network cameras. With video quality in 4K resolution, and pan/tilt and zoom functions, the new AXIS Q6128-E is suitable for indoor and outdoor installations, in low light and challenging conditions, the makers say. Applications are said to include shopping malls, open parking areas and sports stadiums as well as cities and perimeters.

The company’s PTZ domes with Axis Sharpdome enable coverage of large areas – above as well as below the horizon – and detail when zooming in. Like all cameras in the Q61 Series, the Q6128-E support Electronic Image Stabilisation.

Erik Frännlid, Director of Product Management, Axis Communications, said: “Our AXIS Q61 PTZ dome cameras have seen great success thanks to their innovative design and high-end technical features and this latest addition offers the added benefit of 4K resolution. There is a clear market need for ultra-high resolution PTZ cameras as they provide significantly more detail which is important for a whole range of usage scenarios, including open spaces, street junctions and squares.”

According to the makers, the Q6128-E will function reliably in temperatures ranging from minus 50 degrees C to 50 degrees C, has a built-in Speed Dry feature for sharp images even in rain, and automatic defog. Its built-in video analytics includes motion detection and Advanced Gatekeeper, allowing the camera to detect an object in a specified area and zoom in on it. With its open Application Programming Interface, the camera also has substantial capacity for third-party intelligent video applications.

The Q6128-E technical specifications include:

4K (8 MP) video at a frame rate of 25/30 fps
12x optical zoom with autofocus
pan of more than 700 degrees per second to allow tracking of fast moving objects
Distortion-free, transparent dome cover
Built-in protection against dust, strong water jets, rain, snow and sunlight
Impact resistance (IK08-rated)
Shock detection with automated alarm to prevent tampering and vandalism
Arctic temperature control

The Q6128-E PTZ dome is planned to be available in the last quarter of 2015, through the company’s distribution channels.
