NG Bailey results

by Mark Rowe

NG Bailey’s IT Services division continues to perform strongly, with its results for the past year, to February 26, 2016, showing sales of almost £60m, the engineering and installation company reports. Over the past two years, sales within IT Services – led by managing director Bob Dunnett – have risen by seven per cent.

The firm says that the division’s growth has been fuelled by its development of a range of new services, including IP-converged electronic security and intelligent building management. The past 12 months has seen a five-year, £50m-plus contract won with Fujitsu, for delivery of information and communication technology across the Ministry of Defence. The business has been appointed on a number of framework agreements, including two positions on the government’s Network Services framework, enabling it to bid for PSN and other government contracts.

Contract work has included the ‘intelligent stadium’ project at the 11,000-seater SSE Arena in Belfast, pictured, where an IT infrastructure overhaul – including 120km of structured cabling – helped create one of the world’s most technologically advanced stadia. This was delivered by the division’s Northern Ireland arm, KNI.

Earlier this year the division added to its accreditations, picking up Gold Partner status from Sony and Platinum Partner status from Milestone Systems, the IP video management software developer.

Bob Dunnett, managing director, said: “We have been successful in the past couple of years because we have focused on the customer first and the technical solutions second. The IT services marketplace has become increasingly complex and it’s easy to get carried away with emerging technologies. Our priority is always to understand what the customer is looking to achieve, and then build innovative and cost-effective solutions that meet those objectives, rather than trying to shoe-horn technology into a solution that doesn’t fit the customer need.

“Being part of the NG Bailey group helps differentiate us in the market. For many customers our ability to act as a single contact point for their IT, facilities and engineering needs is a significant benefit. Smart buildings is a great example. We work closely with our engineering design and facilities services teams to provide data-led solutions for customers that create better performing buildings for developers, landlords and occupiers. Our recent contract with Land Securities to reduce its energy consumption is testament to this.”

NG Bailey IT Services Ltd is a subsidiary of NG Bailey group Ltd, the UK engineering, IT and facilities services business. The group-wide results show it tripled operating profit over the past year to £6m, and increased sales by 12 per cent, to £408m. The company’s secured order book rose 14 per cent to a record £673m.
