Network switches

Vigitron, the US-based manufacturer of analogue and IP transmission products, has released its Extended PoE++ Network Switch Package series. The package consists of an advance network switch and a PoE++ Midspan. It is available in packages for standard or extended distances in both UTP and coax versions for applications requiring PoE up to 60W and long distance of up to 3,000 feet (914 m).

Neil Heller, Vigitron’s Vice President of Business Development, said: “After the introduction of our highly successful UTP and Coax IP and PoE extenders several years ago, we realised most PoE switches were not designed for the high power demands of IP cameras.  This led to the development of our Vi2200 Midspan series, to address these unique power requirements. Next our engineering team focused on combining our patent pending extended distance technology with our Midspans. The result was the Vi2500 series PoE Ethernet extender over UTP and its Coax version Vi2600 series.  Along the way we encountered customers with data transmission issues resulting from the inability to transmit high resolution Megapixel cameras through their existing network switches. Most network switches limit their frame size to maximum 1518 bytes when the port speed is at 100Mbps while most MegaPixel cameras over 2MP generally require frame sizes higher than 1518 bytes, placing them in the Jumbo Frame category. Therefore either the result is greatly diminished or no frame can be transmitted.  The SP series packaged is uniquely designed to address these issued. They are fully tested and certified. With the advent of these packages Vigitron provides complete ubiquitous transmission system solutions.”

The company’s SP series packages are available in eight and 16-port PoE extender, with network switches up to 24 ports. These packages are offered in standard or customised formats to meet various requirements.
