Hardware, software combined

by Mark Rowe

Dahua Technology, the Chinese manufacturer and supplier of video surveillance products based in Hangzhou, has introduced the DSS7016D, which integrates video management software (VMS) to the hardware. The makers say this spares extra devices and cabling.

The conventional way to deal with video is to employ software plus an independent server; Dahua combines the hardware and software. The DSS7016D product is based on Linux, which is virus-free; and its lean design also leads to low power consumption. A single device supports 350 channels at 2M, 175 channels at 4M and 85 channels at 8M real-time recording with 700 Mbps for transmission.
As for backup, it can accommodate 16/24 HDDs, and can support IPSan for expansion. The product comes with LCD screen, which saves trouble in terms of configuration and maintenance. Video management functions include Preview, Playback, Map, Alarm, PTZ control and intelligent analysis.

The makers say that the product is suitable for medium- to large-size applications: a single unit can support up to 2000-channel cameras, and it can upgrade to 5-level-cascading with 20 units at most.

Nathan Chen, Overseas Product Manager at Dahua Technology, said: “It took us a year for optimization, including both hardware and software. Its transmission capability is among the best around the globe as the streaming server has been constantly improved. We also add some functionality such as dual module hot spare and N+M redundancy to level up its reliability.” Visit www.dahuasecurity.com
