Axis launches at ISC West

by Mark Rowe

The network video product company Axis Communications is introducing the AXIS FA Series with modular cameras for discreet video surveillance, and three additions to the AXIS P13 Series that offer 4K resolution in full frame rate. All cameras will be showcased at ISC West 2017.

The modular AXIS FA Series consists of separately sold units that comprise AXIS FA54 Main Unit, FA1105 Sensor Unit, pictured, with a standard lens, FA1125 Sensor Unit with a pinhole lens and FA4115 Dome Sensor Unit with a varifocal lens. The series enables indoor surveillance of four closely situated areas using one system, the product developers say. The FA54 Main Unit can stream at full frame rate HDTV 1080p videos from four connected sensor units at once, using one single IP address.

It captures video with Forensic WDR (wide dynamic range) that is optimised for low light and motion. The FA54 also has the capacity to support video analytics, and has an HDMI output for connection to a surveillance or public view monitor (PVM), for retail applications. The sensor units are small enough to be built into surfaces, structures or devices, and can be installed at eye level such as at building entrances without drawing attention it is claimed. The sensor units come with an 8-m (26 ft.) cable for connection to an AXIS FA54. An optional 15-m (49 ft.) cable can also be used.

Erik Mårtensson, Global Product Manager for Modular cameras at Axis Communications, says: “By separating the sensor unit from the camera body, the sensor units can fit into tight spaces and blend in with the environment for unobtrusive surveillance. The pinhole sensor unit is especially useful at entrances for capturing people’s faces at eye level. AXIS FA Series is really cost-efficient since it offers customers the possibility to cover multiple areas of a location with one high-performance camera system.”

AXIS FA Series will be available through Axis’ distribution channels in May 2017.

P13 Series – additions for 4K and 5 MP surveillance

The indoor AXIS P1367 and outdoor AXIS P1367-E and AXIS P1368-E network cameras are additions to the AXIS P13 fixed-box series, which the makers say are for city surveillance, transport and retail. With higher frame rate, these cameras can provide up to 4K resolution images in large open areas with challenging light, such as arrival halls at train stations, or parking lots.

AXIS P1367/-E support CS and i-CS lenses, while the 4K AXIS P1368-E is delivered with i-CS lens as standard. AXIS P1367-E and AXIS P1368-E have the firm says been designed for outdoor use. They have a mechanical platform which allows for easier access to connectors and cabling and give more space for optional lenses. Built-in camera rails allow larger zoom lenses to be installed, delivering greater detail.

Andres Vigren, Global Product Manager for Fixed box cameras at Axis Communications, says: “The lightweight AXIS P1367-E and AXIS P1368-E are examples of real outdoor cameras. It’s not just a camera put inside a housing, but for the first time we have developed an outdoor-ready CS-mount camera from scratch. This has enabled a highly flexible camera system that can use zoom lenses or even Axis Corridor Format when customers want to view a vertical image and not waste precious screen real estate and bandwidth.”

The new additions to P13 Series will be available through Axis’ distribution channels in the second quarter of 2017.

Axis will showcase these cameras at ISC West, the US security event, which runs from April 5 to 7, 2017 in Las Vegas. Axis will also be previewing a selection of products to be launched later this year: new high resolution fixed domes in AXIS M30 Series, AXIS P32 Series; and AXIS Q35 Series. Axis will preview its new network radar detector, as a complement to existing surveillance solutions in smaller outdoor areas, such as warehouse perimeters and construction sites, that needs monitoring during after-hours. The radar technology enables motion detection in a specified area.
