4K standard camera

by Mark Rowe

Arecont Vision is releasing two products that the megapixel camera company showed at the ISC West and IFSEC shows earlier this year: the MegaVideo Flex and MegaDome 4K.

MegaDome 4K is, as the name implies, a 4K standard camera. It will be the makers say for deployments of a combination of 4K megapixel coverage (8.3 megapixel) at 30 frames per second; such as casinos or anywhere that wants to avoid missing any of the action in a scene.

Brad Donaldson, Vice President of Product Development, Arecont Vision, said: “The new MegaDome 4K camera brings unmatched image quality, advanced capabilities, and 27 times the resolution of standard-resolution IP cameras while outputting high definition video at full real-time frame rates. New design features also make installation easier than ever before, which will reduce time on site for installers.”

MegaDome 4K features a mechanical infra-red cut filter and IR LEDs for day-night use. Binning mode (in 1080p) delivers low light performance. Moonlight mode provides extended exposure time and noise cancellation. The IR LEDs feature an adjustable beam angle and LED intensity for video in a wide variety of low light. MegaDome 4K is suitable for indoor and outdoor use the company says, featuring an IP-66 water/dust rating and an included IK-10 vandal resistant dome.

MegaDome 4K is the first Arecont Vision camera to feature a new dome and enclosure system to reduces the time for installation. An adjustable three-axis gimbal design on which the remote focus/zoom P-Iris lens is mounted provides a range of coverage options.

The MegaDome 4K features also include dual encoders (H.264/MJPEG), Casino Mode (to maintain 30 frames per second or higher as required by gaming industry regulations), and P-Iris control (to enable the camera to deliver image depth of field and clarity). Other features include privacy mask, motion detection, flexible cropping, and bit rate control. The camera also includes support for a SDHC card for onboard storage requirements.

Power can be supplied via a single Power-over Ethernet (PoE) compliant network cable with no external power required for the camera or IR LEDs, or powered from a 12-48V DC/24V AC power supply.

Arecont Vision makes the point that it not only builds its cameras in the United States, but also develops all of its technology, algorithms, firmware, and features. This allows the company to follow industry standards (like 4K) and the firm adds to also use technology such as its new SNAPstream for reducing bandwidth. The MegaDome 4K is one of the first cameras that features SNAPstream, although an upcoming firmware release will be backward-compatible.
