Security suite

by Mark Rowe

New from BullGuard, BullGuard Premium Protection, a security suite that protects against malware, identity theft, financial fraud, online data leaks and helps keep children safe on social networks.

New features include the 24/7 monitoring services: Identity Protection and Social Media Protection.

According to the company it provides an added layer of defence when browsing the internet and entering personal information to help users stay ahead of scams, financial fraud and identity theft. While tools such as password managers, virtual keyboards and file encryption are important, these fail to address situations where users may be accessing the internet from another location, it is claimed. And even if these terminals are secured, personal information could still be leaked from elsewhere, potentially resulting in sensitive data making its way into the wrong hands. The new component runs quietly in the background and notifies users via email and text alerts if personal information about them has been compromised, with advice as to what to do next.

Social Media Protection is a non-intrusive service that comes with a user-friendly interface for parents to monitor their children’s Facebook profiles and a cool app for children to help them avoid engaging in risky activities.

It scans all content on the monitored profile and flags messages (sent or received) that contain inappropriate words. This includes signs of cyber-bullying and “sexting”, friends that may be a bad influence on the child, links that lead to malicious or inappropriate web content and photos that present a certain level of risk. Both parents and children receive alerts about what potential threats certain items may pose so that they can take the necessary prevention.

BullGuard’s Social Media Protection service is accessible via a tablet, laptop, PC or smartphone. All alerts are gathered automatically and can be checked and monitored by parents anytime, anywhere, to help ensure their children are always safe online.

The firm says that it has also recognised the need for modern internet users to save more and more important data online, expanding its default online backup storage capacity to 25GB.

BullGuard Head of Product Management, Alex Balan, says: “The changing face of threats and the changing habits of users in the modern computing age means that consumers face an uphill battle when trying to stay one step ahead of malicious third parties. Our intention when developing Premium Protection was to address these concerns and recognise that it’s just as important to protect the person, as it is the PC. We’ve placed a strong focus on identity and social media protection, incorporating tools that can help guard against new threats alongside all of the ‘traditional’ protection required to help keep you (and your children) safe online.”

BullGuard Premium Protection can be purchased for £69.99 inc.VAT for a three PC license, with a 30-day trial downloadable for free. Existing users of BullGuard Internet Security will also be able to upgrade to the new suite to receive the additional protection.
