Factory CCTV

by Mark Rowe

An IT firm has won a five-figure contract for on-site security at a Sunderland car components’ manufacturer. The Gateshead firm Advantex Network Solutions Ltd has the work to supply and install a new internet-based CCTV system at Unipres (UK) Limited (UPUK), which produces car-body structural parts for the likes of Honda and Renault at its 127,000m2 factory on Cherry Blossom Way.

The video will monitor critical areas such as production and robot assembly lines, along with the safety of 1100 people employed at the site.
The deal includes a support package covering repair and maintenance, and annual health checks for all hardware and software.

Advantex will also be providing remote technical support via its help desk and has built in features to enable the system to be upgraded to accommodate expansion.

Sunderland is the focal point of Unipres’ operations in Europe as a manufacturer of press-formed automotive components; so an upgraded system was critical to secure on-site security, said Gu Capstaff, IT manager for Unipres.

He added: “We will benefit from the highest levels of on-site security following this latest investment. Advantex has delivered a flexible, quality system that secures our needs for site safety. The company has also been responsive in providing an advanced, cost effective solution that will deliver long term financial benefits over many years.”

Advantex reports a £4m turnover and employs about 50 people at its Follingsby Business Park headquarters. Tony Easingwood, account manager at Advantex, said: “This is a prestigious contract win for us, reflecting our capacity to provide advanced security solutions that operate on the latest IP platforms. We are now working with many leading North East manufacturers to help them improve their operations through the provision of quality advice and network infrastructure services.”
