EN50131 graded 24Vdc power supplies

by Mark Rowe

Dycon Power Solutions Ltd, the developer and manufacturer of power supply products for the fire, security and monitoring markets, has released the D2421-C. That’s a 24VDC switched-mode power supply unit which conforms to the requirements of EN50131/PD6662:2012 at Grade 2 and Grade 3.

Most existing compliant power supply units only offer 12VDC outputs, says the Wales-based company; but, due to the increasing use of 24VDC access control and CCTV additions within integrated systems, there is now a need for graded 24VDC versions as well. The Dycon D2421-C is designed to fill that need, providing a full 3.7A (100W) continuous current to the output and the battery at a voltage of 26.6VDC to 27.4VDC and is fully compliant with both Grade 2 and Grade 3 of PD6662/EN50131-6.

To avoid having to stock separate Grade 2 and Grade 3 units, the D2421-C features a jumper link that enables an installer to select which grade he wants. Moving this link automatically changes the unit’s operation between the Grade 2 and Grade 3 and adjusts the battery charge current accordingly. A ‘test inhibit’ input is also provided which connects to an output circuit on the Control and Indication (CIE) equipment, this automatically activates as the system unsets.

When the CIE unsets, the output switches off, the input goes high and a load test is performed immediately and re-tested every two hours. When the CIE sets, the output switches on, the input goes low and the load test is performed every 23 hours 45 minutes. Load tests are only performed when the AC supply is on. Three LEDs are provided and these are able to display the full 16 fault and status conditions required under the standards. Visit www.dyconpower.com.
