Digital Barriers integrate with XProtect

by Mark Rowe

Digital Barriers reports that its video streaming, TVI, will be integrated with Milestone Systems‘ XProtect video management software (VMS).

The firms say that interest in secure, real-time video is growing rapidly, fuelled by the exponential rollout of wireless communications. The market is now demanding wireless for smart cities, vehicle-based passenger safety, remote asset protection, and body-worn video.

Whereas standard video codecs, such as H.264, are not optimised to work in real time over wireless networks (often it’s claimed leading to poor image quality and high data transmission costs), TVI according to its developers was designed for that purpose: real-time video over wireless networks.

The makers say that TVI can operate over wireless networks of all types, ranging from legacy GPRS cellular, through satcom and IP radio, to the latest 3G, LTE and WiFi networks. With sales into more than thirty countries, Digital Barriers say customers include prominent defence and security organisations.

This Milestone-TVI capability will be available in the summer of 2015, and was demo’d at the Milestone stand during IFSEC 2015 in London.
