Bold Communications at IFSEC

by Mark Rowe

The latest version of the Gemini monitoring platform will be on the Bold Communications’ stand G425 at IFSEC 2014 in June. Providing integrated monitoring of data, audio and CCTV, Gemini monitoring software delivers control room management, handling alarms, events, CCTV, lone worker and other security systems into a single software platform.

Bold Communications says that its software can handle legacy alarm and CCTV equipment as well as accommodating new technology, such as video analytics, multi-path IP and wireless alarm signalling, access control reporting and workflow task processing. The result pulls all the monitoring strands together for control of remote sites.

Gemini automates, filters and applies rules, leading the operator through a handling process, providing all required information with a single click. With all operator and signalling activity recorded, as well as CCTV and audio, a full audit trail can be created. As signalling stability and speed of response were key essentials for the client, multi-path communications were configured as an essential part of the system. This provides an alert in the event of any of the communications paths being unavailable, with such an event being reported in Gemini.

Bold Communications has completed many similar such monitoring projects. Gemini provides integrated CCTV, fire, intruder and panic alarms, lone worker protection, asset tracking and access control. Bold systems are all supported by specialist field technicians and projects engineers for technical support.

Gemini software has been developed with integration designed in at the planning stage.
This differentiates the product from those solutions intended principally for single product types, for example, CCTV or alarm management, with integration added as an after-thought, according to the company. With the ‘designed in’ approach, for example, multiple CCTV systems are presented to the operator in exactly the same way as conventional alarms, lone worker and other security systems. Events generated from IP cameras or video analytics are prioritised and processed in the same user interface as a conventional digicom alarm. The software is being developed with the new third party product interfaces, modules and features, for dispersed and single site integrated monitoring.

Software in the security monitoring sector can be notoriously clunky, the company adds, with operators struggling to access information required to deal with events. The importance of avoiding this problem was recognised at Gemini’s design stage, with particular priority being given to making the software simple and easy to use. An intuitive ‘Fluent User’ interface was developed so that setting up new sites and performing system administration is as simple as possible, with configurations created to match the user’s needs. Additional operators, software interfaces and modules can be added when required. With features like pre-alarm event video, interactive graphics, audio management and workflow processing, the operator has everything on a single screen if preferred, for handling alarms and events.

The Gemini solution has a range of user types – commercial ARCs and RVRCs as well as retail, banking, government, police and health. All systems supplied are supported by the Bold Technical 24/7 support service.
