IFSEC lone worker shortlist

by Mark Rowe

Connexion2’s new 8 Series Identicom has been short listed for a new “Lone Worker Protection Solution of The Year” category at the IFSEC and FIREX Awards 2013.

Launched at IFSEC last year, Connexion2’s 8 Series Identicom range has offered one or two-way audio as well as updated GPS. The communication technology can be used to gain a greater understanding of an incident in a risk appropriate situation such as when a user suffers from a ‘Man Down’ incident due to a slip, trip or fall, the makers say.

The Identicom 877c device includes a camera. When the user conducts a ‘Status Check’, the device will take a still image of the situation, which is then uploaded to the client’s Mobile Workforce Management Platform.

The 8 Series Identicom comes with flexible software updates, which can be carried out over the air, whilst the device is being worn. Other improvements include multi-function buttons on the front of the device beneath the user’s ID card. Reducing the need for mobile phones, the buttons can trigger the device to call or send an SMS text message to pre-defined numbers such as the office or a Manager.

Identicom retains its appearance as a standard identity card holder giving peace of mind for staff working outside close or direct supervision. Three times winner of the Security Excellence Awards as well as other awards, Identicom has over 100,000 users worldwide. It also achieved Police approval through ACPO’s ‘Secured by Design’ status. In 2012 Connexion2 was the first company to be approved against the updated BS8484: 2011 standard.

Craig Swallow, Managing Director of Connexion2 said: “We’re delighted to have been short-listed for this prestigious award. Recently, Connexion2 was the first to receive BS8484: 2011 approval, enabling us to remain at the forefront of innovation in the lone worker market and I believe that the 8 Series Identicom is a testament to the fact that we continue to lead the way in lone worker protection.”

The awards will take place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel on Monday, May 13. Website: www.connexion2.com
