The new Evolis Primacy is a single or dual sided ID card printer, available from the Kent-based distributor DED. With the manufacturer’s encoding technology, Primacy is suitable the firms say for issuing cards for medium to large runs of card printing, and to deliver cards such as transportation passes, payment cards and identification badges.

As for print speed, the Primacy can do colour cards t a rate of up to 210 cards per hour for one side, and 140 cards per hour dual-sided. Thanks to the 100 card capacity input and output hopper, the product can be left to do a print job on its own with the minimum of fuss, according to the makers. The card hoppers are at the front of the printer so can be monitored at a glance. The printer can be single or dual sided; the dual-sided option can be activated on-site if required. This printer can also be fitted with magnetic and contact/contactless encoding if the need arises. Ribbons are available in a cassette system that can be dropped into the printer to facilitate easy handling and loading – each ribbon is automatically set and identified

Energy consumption is said to be five times lower on average than printers from the previous generation. The Primacy operates at a low 48 db sound level and, so can be deployed into any working environment. With USB and Ethernet interfaces as standard, Primacy comes with drivers for Windows XP/Vista/7 and MAC OS X.
