Worker safety key fob

by Mark Rowe

From Reliance Protect, part of the security firm Reliance High-Tech, comes the rtouch, a key fob to offer safety for lone workers at the touch of a button. The fob can be worn or carried discreetly and to use it has an SOS button on the front, three buttons on the side of the device, and a series of LEDs indicating status.

The product lets users leave messages detailing information such as their location, the nature of task they are about to perform, and aspects from a risk perspective that may be prove of use to know if an SOS is raised later. Reliance Protect control room operators will be able to access these messages as part of the alarm handling.

The product works with GPS and continuously updates its position. This location information is stored on the device itself. When an SOS is raised, this information is sent to Reliance’s monitoring centre and displayed to the operator in mapping software. The SOS button generates one-way and two-way voice calls into the monitoring centre where lone worker specialist alarm handlers can listen in, monitor a situation, and then respond and escalate accordingly. The makers add that the product can also be used in mobile staff management applications where GPS locations are frequently uploaded to mapping-based platforms, for real time management of mobile staff. LEDs confirm the status of the device, detailing level of battery charge, GSM signal strength, and GPS location position.

The device also indicates to the user when an SOS has been raised and when the voice call has been connected and being monitored. The rtouch complies with the British Standards BS8484:2011 Provision of Lone Worker Services, and as such fits into the wider
accredited Reliance Protect services.
