SIA Glasgow checks

by Mark Rowe

Checks on security guards working on construction sites in Greater Glasgow and Renfrewshire on Friday, June 7, found all operatives working legally.

Investigators from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) supported Police Scotland to conduct checks across 12 construction sites, inspecting 11 security guards. All held a valid Security Industry Authority licence.

These checks were also part of the SIA’s on-going efforts to ensure that any contractor or sub-contractor providing security services under publicly funded contract is approved under the SIA’s Approved Contractor Scheme. The Scottish Government made this a requirement in 2010.

SIA Head of Investigation Sharon Roberts said: “We are very pleased that these checks have given us such positive results. We will continue to ensure that all security operatives are correctly licensed and undertake activities to ensure that security services provided to public contracts are carried out by ACS companies.”
