Showsec appointments

by Mark Rowe

The event stewarding and security contractor Showsec reports steps towards completion of a restructure of crucial support services by announcing two key appointments. Roy Wise will take a new position of Head of Product Resources, while Michelle Sparsis joins the Leicester-base company as Booking Manager.

A Product Resourcing Department is being established at head office to centralise three of the support services which play such an important role in the business: recruitment, training and booking. Showsec add that they are now moving into the final stages of that restructure.

Mark Harding, Showsec’s Managing Director, said: “These two appointments give us considerable experience and expertise in vital roles within the new Product Resourcing Department which will help us to move the Company forwards. The prime objective is to utilise all our resources in a more effective way to provide an enhanced service for casual workers and clients.

“Nobody is better qualified to take on the lead role in this restructure than Roy Wise due to his vast experience of the security industry and the influence which he has had upon the development of the Company since it first started. Likewise, Michelle Sparsis brings a wealth of experience of running call centre operations and the management of change.

“As well as enhancing our services, the restructure has presented new career opportunities for existing members of our highly-skilled workforce while also creating new jobs at head office to support the operation.”

Wise has vacated the role of Training and Development Manager to take up his new appointment. “I’m passionate about my work in the security industry and am confident this new department can make a big difference to the service which we deliver, something we are constantly endeavouring to achieve. Individually, each of the three departments – Recruitment, Training and Booking – has made a vital contribution to the progress we have made, but the pace at which the Company has grown, especially in recent years, has highlighted a need to create a centralised structure that galvanises the whole resources operation.”

Sparsis, pictured, joins Showsec after eight years as a key figure in the management of the Leicester call centre for online travel business Opodo.

Having operated in managerial roles with Expedia and National Car Rental, she now aims to draw on her experiences, especially most recently with Opodo, to drive forwards the changes being made to the booking department.

She said: “It’s an exciting challenge, one for which my experience of helping to develop call centres and managing change will serve me well. It will be important that the team gels together because there will be a whole group of new people operating alongside the existing team, so we have to set down guidelines for how we all work together to provide an enhanced booking operation.”
