Nominate for personnel awards

by Mark Rowe

Members of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) are being encouraged to submit their nominations for 2015’s Security Personnel Awards, as the submission deadline approaches. The BSIA’s annual awards are presented regionally and nationally, and reward security staff for their achievements across five categories: Service to the Customer, Outstanding Act, Best Newcomer, Best Use of Technology and Best Team.

Sponsored by the specialist insurance brokers to the BSIA and the security industry, Camberford Law PLC, 2014’s Security Personnel Awards saw over 20 regional winners and 16 national winners recognised, whether for saving lives, or implementing technology to solve crime and reduce financial loss.

The deadline for nominations for the 2015 awards is November 1, with the judging for the regional awards in December. Those winners of the regional rounds are then put forward to the nationals, with judging taking place in March 2015, culminating in a ceremony at the BSIA’s annual lunch in July.

Sponsoring 2014’s Annual Lunch event was BSIA member company, Eaton’s Security Business. Matthew Phelps, Managing Director of Eaton’s Security Business, said: “Eaton’s Security Business was pleased to support the BSIA at its recent Annual Lunch, as the event provides a great service in recognising the efforts and achievements of people right across our industry.”

While 2014’s winners included household names including Securitas, Corps Security and VSG, there’s also an opportunity the association points out for smaller firms to raise their profile by nominating outstanding team members for BSIA Awards. Steve Fives, Group Chairman of Westgrove Group, said: “The Westgrove Group had the enviable accolade of winning two coveted national awards for two of our security colleagues last year, an amazing achievement for our company in our very first year of submitting nominations. We followed this up for the second year running this year with two regional awards and a further national award. A fantastic achievement for our business and our colleagues.

“Traditionally, the security industry’s bigger players have dominated the awards; as an independent company we were delighted to be acknowledged. Winning has given our business a significantly improved market profile and there has been a tangible difference relating to the awareness of the Westgrove brand within our target market. We will most certainly be submitting nominations once again for next year’s awards.”

James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA, said: “These awards are a fantastic opportunity for our member companies to showcase the talents of personnel who go above and beyond the call of duty on a daily basis in order to deliver a high quality service and maintain the positive reputation of our industry.”

Christine Brooks, Events Manager at the BSIA, added: “These awards serve to reward security personnel working for BSIA member companies for their dedication, loyalty, teamwork, customer service, use of technology and bravery. They provide an ideal opportunity for businesses to showcase the skills and achievements of their employees, whether they are working within a small, medium or large company. We strongly encourage all members to participate in putting nominations forward.”

Winners and their employers receive publicity in local and regional media, as well as coverage in the security trade press. National award winners will also gain the added exposure of receiving their award at the BSIA’s flagship Annual Luncheon event, which is held at the London Hilton on Park Lane. Awards are customarily presented by the Association’s Guest of Honour, which in the past has included royals, MPs and Cabinet Ministers, and senior police.
