National partnership win

by Mark Rowe

STM Group (UK) Ltd was honoured as the National Partnership Winner at the British Security Awards 2021, the annual event run by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) – online this year and last, due to the covid pandemic.

This award recognises the guarding firm’s work with Network Rail, whereby STM staff are working to protect the public and reduce risk throughout the railway network.

This award highlights the Group’s Trespass & Welfare suicide prevention project. Staff have now known to have prevented well over 100 suicide attempts, as well as assisting countless more vulnerable people. The guard firm says this has been achieved through the careful selection of staff, with focused training, covering over 30 high profile railway stations.

STM Group provides bespoke manpower, specialising in the delivery of security, cleaning, and customer-focused services, underpinned, and supported by technology. The company has gained numerous awards, including Transport Supplier of the Year at the London Transport Awards 2020; Security Project of the Year at IFSEC 2020; and Outstanding Customer Service Initiative at the OSPAs 2021.

Paul Jacomb, CEO of STM Group, said: “The transition I have seen, since joining STM in 2019, has been little short of remarkable. By investing in our internal customers, whilst promoting best practice through an overarching commitment to continuous service improvement, operational standards have gone from strength to strength. I salute those who have made this possible, by working together as ‘One Team’, and am both thankful and grateful that organisational performance has been recognised through the award of yet another prestigious accolade.”

Meanwhile the Group takes great pride in promoting a diverse business, representative of different cultures, religions, genders, and beliefs. Hence STM launched its Voice of Women (VOW) Group, an internal support system aimed at providing encouragement, and care for every female STM internal customer. VOW aims to provide a relevant voice on all matters, however big or small, whilst promoting development opportunities throughout the business.

The firm reports that its VOW Working Group has proved to be a success thus far with this internal, initiative seeking to break external barriers, as an integral part of a wider strategy to both protect and project the female voice. From an internal perspective, the VOW Group has launched bi-weekly e-newsletters, which include inspiring and insightful content, aimed at providing knowledge to help empower STM’s internal customers.

From webinar links and book recommendations, to raising awareness and sharing success stories, the VOW Newsletter is helping to make the women of STM “a force to be reckoned with”. STM is a proud member of the Women’s Night Safety Charter, a project launched by the Mayor of London, designed to tackle violence against women, whilst making London a welcoming and safe environment. Likewise, STM is a founding signatory of the EDI Charter by Women in Rail and Railway Industry Association, an initiative launched to champion equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout the UK railway industry.

STM, a member of the ACS Pacesetters group of guarding firms, remains committed to supporting and protecting not only its own female employees, but also those of all other stakeholders. The company takes great pride in creating an environment which is welcoming to all, regardless of any individual internal or external customer differentiation.
