National Grid contract

by Mark Rowe

The facilities management contractor 14forty, a division of Compass Group UK & Ireland, has been awarded a new contract with National Grid. The five-year deal to begin on April 1, 2016, will see the contractor provide soft facilities management services to the National Grid estate. Services will include ground maintenance, catering, cleaning, security and hospitality.

14forty will also take up an “integration role” by working together with CBRE – the new hard service facilities management provider to National Grid. CBRE will provide hard services relating to National Grid’s buildings and its systems including delivering critical engineering work. Overall, some 500 staff members will be carrying out services to more than 1000 sites in the UK.

Mauro Ortelli, Managing Director at 14forty, said: “At 14forty, we have worked with National Grid since 2009 and the extended partnership reflects on the strengths of our working relationship and our ability to deliver a high quality service. We are looking forward to operating the new integrated model, which will showcase 14forty’s wider skills set. The model is quite a unique service to this sector which will ensure a smooth running of services to National Grid.”

Carl Longworth, Corporate Property Portfolio Manager at National Grid added: “This new style of working will bring great benefits for us at National Grid, and those who work with us. I was extremely impressed with 14forty and CBRE. While all the tenders were of an extremely high standard it was their innovative approach that really stood out.”

And Tommy Meikle, Managing Director – National Accounts Division, EMEA GWS, at CBRE said: “National Grid is a globally renowned electricity and gas company that connects millions of people worldwide to energy. Its aim is to ensure energy is delivered safely, reliably and efficiently to the end consumer. To partner with National Grid across its GB network is testament to our experience and knowledge working within critical environments and engineering. We look forward to becoming an extension of National Grid’s team.”
