Lone worker button

by Mark Rowe

Guardian24, a provider of lone and mobile worker safety solutions, has announced a partnership with Toughshield to launch its lone worker safety mobile application on the R500 device, a ‘ruggedised’ mobile device. It’s for lone workers in industries such as construction and utilities.

Guardian24 Director Henry Woods, said: “More and more people are now working alone as a result of cutbacks to budgets and staff numbers during the recession. Where two or three people might have done a particular task together before the recession, cuts to workforces mean that lone working is becoming more and more common so for many businesses nowadays, their employees’ safety is a key concern. Our partnership with the Toughshield R500 not only brings to market a lone worker solution for an ultra-rugged device with IP67 and MIL810-G rating, but it also features a dedicated Lone Worker button that allows workers in distress to raise alerts simply at the touch of one button.”

With the Guardian24 product, workers can sign in and out of their daily activities, while recording details of their location and estimated duration of their task. In case of an activity taking longer than anticipated, Guardian24 will call the worker to confirm their safety. If there is no answer from the user, a previously agreed protocol will be set in motion to determine the staff member’s safety and location.

Or, if a lone worker is in distress or feels unsafe at any time, they can discreetly press the Lone Worker button on the Toughshield R500 to alert the emergency response centre. The R500, waterproof and dustproof, can survive drops onto concrete as well as extreme temperatures (from minus 25 C to plus 85 C). The R500’s Gorilla Glass prevents the screen from scratching and shattering.
