Lib Dem conference

The Liberal Democrat Spring Conference runs at The Sage Gateshead between Friday and Sunday, 9 and 11 March. Northumbria Police say that they have been working closely with event organisers, local authorities and a range of other partners for several months in the run up to the conference to ensure the event passes off safely and securely.

Police say that it will be very much “business as usual” both around the site and across the wider force area, with no planned road closures or traffic disruption for the duration of the conference. The Sage Gateshead will be closed to the public throughout – from Thursday to Sunday.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Ashman said: “We’re pleased to be playing our part in what is another prestigious event in the Northumbria Police area. We’ve been involved in previous party conferences at The Sage Gateshead and are looking forward to a safe and enjoyable event for everyone involved.

“As with all large events we’ve been planning for this conference for a number of months. One of our priorities has been to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum and we’re pleased that no roads have had to be closed.

“We’d also like to stress it will be business as usual, and although we’ll have officers working on this operation there will be no reduction to the service provided to all our communities across the force area.”
