International Safety Awards

by Mark Rowe

The security and related services contractor Axis Group Services was the winner of the Wellbeing Initiative Award, in the British Safety Council International Safety Awards 2021. That’s for protecting employees from the risk of injury and ill health at work. Axis was also a winner of the International Safety Award 2021, announced in April.

Now in their 63rd year, the awards recognise organisations and individuals, who have shown to the satisfaction of the scheme’s independent judges their commitment to preventing workplace injuries and work-related ill health. The awards also mark commitment to wellbeing and mental health at work.

In 2021, some 387 organisations won an International Safety Award. They span all sectors and are drawn from the UK, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Some 85 organisations were awarded a Distinction, 155 a Merit and 147 achieved a Pass.

Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, said: “The British Safety Council commends Axis on their achievement. The award is in recognition of their commitment and efforts to keep their employees and workplaces free of injury and ill health.

“My heartfelt congratulations to all of the individuals, teams and organisations that have won a prestigious International Safety Award. The winners have made substantial efforts to protect and enhance the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone in their organisations. All the winners, as well as those who were shortlisted, have gone above and beyond in dedicating additional time, resources and commitment to ensuring their work, teams and workplaces remained healthy and safe during 2020 amid a global pandemic.

“I would also like to say thank you to all the organisations who took time to apply for these awards and to our panel of judges who volunteered to adjudicate them. It is our vision at the British Safety Council that no-one should be injured or made ill through their work – anywhere in the world. By sharing the achievements of the winners of these awards, we can inspire other employers everywhere to follow their lead and give workers’ health, safety and wellbeing the priority it rightly deserves.”

“While there is no International Safety & Mates in Mind Awards Gala Dinner this year, we are making plans and look forward to welcoming you to our Gala Dinner in June 2022, to celebrate your success through such challenging times.”
