Gender diversity award

by Mark Rowe

Sodexo, the services company, has been shortlisted in the Opportunity Now Excellence in Practice Awards 2014 in recognition of its commitment to gender diversity. The workplace gender campaign from Business in the Community, Opportunity Now recognises public and private sector organisations that have put gender at the core of their business agendas and are committed to creating inclusive workplaces.

Alongside being shortlisted, Sodexo will also receive a Business in the Community Big Tick, which is awarded to organisations who demonstrate significant achievements in their responsible business programme to celebrate and profile their responsible business success.

The Big Tick is recognised as a leading endorsement of responsible business, and organisations can use it to showcase their achievements and raise their profile with customers, suppliers, employers, investors and the media. 2014 is the first year that organisations shortlisted for the Opportunity Now Awards have received a Big Tick.

Megan Horsburgh, head of diversity and inclusion at Sodexo, said: ‘We are delighted that we have been shortlisted for this award and that we have received a Big Tick for our achievements as it provides well-deserved recognition for the many Sodexo men and women who commit their energy to promoting gender balance at work and in our marketplace.”

Kathryn Nawrockyi, Director, Opportunity Now, said: “Congratulations to Sodexo on being shortlisted for the Opportunity Now Excellence in Practice Awards 2014. The standard of entries this year once again raises the bar for future leadership on gender equality, and these employers should be proud of and celebrate their success at this stage. They are a great example of how working together can help to create real, sustainable change which benefits not just women in the workplace, but also organisational culture and society as a whole. I hope other employers will learn from this exemplary work. We’re also delighted to award Sodexo a Business in the Community Big Tick in further recognition of their achievements.”

This year’s winners will be announced at the Opportunity Now Excellence in Practice Awards Gala Dinner, which takes place on Wednesday 2 April at the Brewery in the City of London as part of Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Week.

The awards dinner will feature speakers including journalist and broadcaster Alice Arnold, CEO of Newton Investment Management, founder of the 30% Club and chair of Opportunity Now Helena Morrissey, and director of Opportunity Now Kathryn Nawrockyi.
