At Corps Security, Tom Harris has been appointed as its new chairman. He’s succeeding Clive Ward who steps down after three years in the role.
A chartered accountant, Tom Harris qualified with Price Waterhouse after gaining a degree in chemistry from Oxford University. His career includes eight years in Canada where he launched HMV into a 120-store retail chain. On his return to the UK, he acted as finance director for several companies including the UK retail arm of Body Shop, a major Virgin subsidiary, and Mitsubishi Motors. His most recent role was as chief financial officer for James Dyson, where he was heavily involved in the company’s international expansion and helped drive its profits to in excess of £100m.
Tom Harris has spent the last five years as a non-executive director of Corps. He said: ‘When the opportunity arose to become the chairman of this fine organisation it was one that I didn’t hesitate to seize. Corps Security’s prestigious history is a source of immense pride and inspiration to all its stakeholders and I will ensure that dedication, integrity and the pursuit of excellence continues to be at the very heart of what we do.’
Outgoing chairman, Clive Ward, said: ‘The last three years have been an incredibly exciting time for all at Corps Security and I take great satisfaction in leaving it in a position that will enable it to take the challenges of the future in its stride.’
On the appointment of Tom Harris, Corps Security’s chief executive, Peter Webster, added: ‘It has been our immense privilege to have Clive Ward as our chairman and I would like to thank him for his work during his tenure. With his enviable curriculum vitae, we will benefit enormously from Tom’s experience and I know that he sees huge potential within Corps Security. We look forward to working with him to achieve our objectives.’
