BBC contract

by Mark Rowe

First Security, part of the FM contractor Interserve, has been awarded a manned guarding and security services contract with the BBC. The three year contract has an option to extend for an extra two years. This is the first time the broadcaster has chosen one national security provider, having previously split the service regionally.

This contract will see security personnel deliver services across the UK, including such locations such as Maida Vale Studios and Broadcasting House in London, and MediaCityUK in Salford.

Simon Dobell, Contract Director at First Security, said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to support this leading broadcaster in delivering their security strategy. We are confident that our extensive experience in delivering total security management solutions to over 300 companies will help the BBC to achieve its challenging security objectives.”

And Eddie Halling, Head of Corporate Security at the BBC, said: “From the bids received, First Security stood out in terms of its collaborative, flexible approach and alignment with our goals. We have very clear objectives in ensuring the BBC is a safe and secure environment for staff and visitors across the estate and First Security were the right choice in supporting us with this goal.”

The guard firm adds that this contract is in addition to the £150m, five-year, nationwide facilities management contract recently won by Interserve, the support services and construction group. According to the contractor, the relationship between Interserve and First Security enables a level of consistency between the two contracts.
