Wireless CCTV for CVIT

by Mark Rowe

A company offering wireless CCTV streaming to the transport and logistics sectors, CriticalStreaming, says it can make life safer for the Cash and Valuables in Transit (CVIT) industries.

CEO of CriticalStreaming Iain Janes, pictured, said: “Criminals who know CCTV is only going to be reviewed at a later date are unlikely to be deterred by it given the lure of the cash and valuables involved. If they knew the feeds were being viewed live and the operators had the means to respond in real time, it could cause thieves to think again, or provides a better chance of them being caught in the act.”

Live streaming is less about identifying criminals and more about enabling immediate response, the firm adds. To view what happened post event is one thing but immediate incident response is the Holy Grail; allowing operatives watching live to alert the relevant authorities and the police if they spot a potential problem even before it has happened and various actions (such as locking doors) can even be triggered remotely.

Janes said: “CCTV in vehicles, especially for the CIT industry is nothing new. It has been used primarily as a deterrent but the criminals organised enough to be engaged in these attacks are hardly going to be put off so easily. It may deter amateurs, but not the professionals and that’s where live streaming comes into its own by giving users the option of practical, pre-emptive response.”

Live streaming has been trialled on public transport in the UK, the firm adds. Pickpockets can be spotted and the vehicle stopped before the thief realises. The same can happen with CVIT, it’s claimed, where the police can be alerted to suspicious activity before the criminals act.

“CiticalStreaming provides a practical deterrent, offering functional responses to situations. Live feeds can be streamed into a control room or a mobile phone and thanks to the know-how of our partners Vemotion, high quality video can be transmitted over low bandwidth. CVIT performs an important service throughout the country, and the technology now available can make a tangible difference in deterring attacks and keeping CIT employees safer on the job.”
